What better way to kick start the week than with an English wine and cheese masterclass at OXO Tower Restaurant…
As English wine has received fantastic press over the last few weeks there was no better time for us to boast about the extensive English wine list featured at OXO Tower Restaurant and launch their first own label fizz. English Wine Week and British Cheese Week falls over the last week of May and the first week of June respectively, and so the OXO Tower Restaurant hosted an imitate masterclass.
Hosting the event was OXO’s Head Sommelier, Diego Muntoni, English wine producer Trevor Clough of Digby and British cheese supplier, Srdja Mastilovic of Neal’s Yard Dairy.
To kick off the evening, Trevor introduced an absolute winner. The brand new Harvey Nichols fizz, a collaboration with wine producer Digby, is a delightful English Sparkling Brut NV. What better way to toast to the collaboration than on OXO’s terrace overlooking the Thames as the sun set!
Back inside after a few glasses of Harvey Nichol’s sparkling, with the fantastic views of London surrounding us, we were seated and guided through five wine and cheese pairings. Each pairing had its own story and Trevor, Srdja and Diego were full of knowledge about each wine and cheese. My personal favourite was definitely the Harvey Nichols Sparkling paired with the Suffolk St. Jude cheese, a silky raw cow’s cheese with a gentle and milky texture. Delectable!
With one of the most extensive English wine lists in London, there is no better time to get down to OXO and experience some fine homegrown grapes paired with truly British cheese. And in the words of Head Sommelier, Diego Muntoni, “here we have a glimpse of the future, look what England can produce!”
