At Stir, we love the chance to get together, have a bit of fun and raise some money along the way, so Tuesday’s pub quiz at The Owl and Pussycat was certainly no exception. With Mental Health Awareness Week in mind, teams from across the Captivate group met for an evening of quizzes and raffles to raise money for City and Hackney Mind. A branch of the national mental health charity, Mind, this fantastic organisation provides new and innovative support services to people experiencing mental health issues.
Pens poised, and brains whirring, the quiz got off to a great start with a healthy sense of competition in the air. Compèred by Stir’s Heather and Amy, competitors were examined on their music, sport, science and history knowledge, putting to the test how much of that degree really did pay off! Local knowledge was disputed and discovered in the especially created Shoreditch round which certainly succeeded in separating the natives from the day-trippers.
The competition really got going approaching the marking of papers; each team keen to showcase their intellectual talent. With rivalry at an all-time high, the judges were forced to rule that their decisions on answers must be absolute. After an intense eight rounds of questions ranging from Jane Austen to Joanna Lumley, a joint Communicator/Stir team was named the victors and basked in the glory of being the Captivate Group’s ultimate Eggheads.
The highly-anticipated raffle followed which boasted a selection of sought-after prizes. A fantastic evening was had by all with an impressive sum being raised for Mind. We very much look forward to supporting them again in the future.
